Abstract:: Of Green warships, drones – unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) –, forest criminals, corruptors, threats, militant activism and public denunciation. Is this the edge of environmental glory or a potential trigger for a new trend of eco-terrorism?
Worldwide trends of militant activism have risen in recent years, including an increase in acts by environmental movements and environmental NGOs/ENGOs. The constant barrage of doomsday predictions by the environmental fringe is hotly contested by experts and by members of all sectors of society, as the predictions often centre on emotionally-driven and confusing ideological debates rather than scientific facts. The lines are blurred and have given rise to a new counterculture in Indonesia. The fast growing counterculture is attracting a new kind of self-radicalized militant activist who, in the search of a new agenda, is drifting towards violence.
